Ready for resale?

Preparing your home for resale can be a tricky situation; You want to make sure the home is nice enough to bring potential buyers in, but you do not want to spend more money than necessary on these projects.
Keeping budget in mind, we have narrowed down the four main areas of a home that will catch the buyer’s eye.

#4 – Heating and/or cooling systems
Many buyers in today’s market are looking for energy efficiency, especially in older homes.
If your home has an older HVAC system or a system that requires frequent maintenance it is likely time to replace your heating and cooling system. The cost of doing so may seem steep, it could be the difference between a quick sell and watching your home sit on the market.

#3 – Flooring
Flooring is often a feature in the home that every buyer will inspect and scrutinize. Solutions for this are simple  – hire a professional and have them cleaned. If your hardwood flooring has lost its shine and beauty have them refinished to bring them back to life. Although, if you really want to make an impact, or these solutions won’t work for you, install new flooring material that is sure to impress.

#2 – Bathrooms
Even if the rest of your home has been updated beautifully, dull dated bathrooms will send potential buyers out the door.
An easy way to spruce up your bathroom is by installing new mirrors, fixtures and hardware. Some bathrooms may need major “TLC”, if this is the case a full bathroom renovation is likely exactly what you need. While it may seem pricey at first, the Interiors With Elegance renovation team will work with your budget in mind and we ensure to give the potential buyers the wow factor they are looking for.

#1 – Kitchens
Known as the “heart of the home”, the kitchen is the one area in your home that will make or break a sale on its own.
With every homeowner having their dream kitchen design in their mind, the key is to keep the kitchen appealing to everyone. You want to keep the kitchen fresh so the buyer’s aren’t walking into the space seeing tons of upgrading in front of them.
Try refacing the cabinets, or upgrading the fixtures and hardware to add some extra shine into the space. If you have an older home with a below standard kitchen you may consider a kitchen remodel. A kitchen remodel will not only wow the potential buyers, but will also bring the value of your home up.

Bathroom Storage Solutions

When planning a bathroom renovation with our clients, we often come across the client looking for either more storage, or more efficient storage solutions.

In bathroom remodels, storage is key, and with many different storage options available you are sure to find a suitable solution for your needs.

Bathroom storage can be tricky, especially in a smaller area with minimal cabinet space.
Interiors With Elegance designers work with our client and our woodshop to create custom cabinetry to meet the storage needs requires in every project. In our bathroom renovations we like to include roll-out tray under the sink for easy access, we can also include custom drawers for hair tools and cord storage.

A bathroom vanity being installed shows under sink roll-out trays as an additional storage option.      This vanity include under sink pullout trays, storage for hot hair tools, and a lot of drawer space.

A niche is another great option for storage solutions in your bathroom remodel. You will often see a niche in a shower stall, but these can also be added beside vanities to act as an open medicine cabinet or above free standing bathtubs for additional storage. They are not only great storage options but are also visually appealing.

A wide niche is installed over a tub. For added detail a mosaic tile is installed withih the niche.       A large niche is installed above a free standing tub. This niche provides maximun storage and is visually appealing with its dark wood frame, arched top and 2 shelves.

Mold and Windows – what you need to know

As you are planning your upcoming renovation, you may want to consider upgrading the windows in your home as well. Here is some info you need to know to prevent mold growth in your home.

A new home renovation. Reframed the main entrance, including new windows.

New windows being installed

Mold can grow anywhere the is an organic food source. When products in the home, such as wood window frames or wood window sills, come in contact with moisture for an extended period of time, then mold can grow. Which, generally speaking, means wood window frames are at a much higher risk of growing mold than a vinyl product. However, if even tiny particles of organic matter (pollen fragments, pet or animal dander, or even insects) are found on the surfaces of a vinyl

One of the main things to watch for in your home is sweaty windows – Due to varying humidity levels homeowners may often find their windows “sweat” during winter or summer months. If windows have air leaks, or major condensation they are failing to act as a barrier, they need to be replaced. Homeowners should take steps to minimize condensation.

If you have window coverings that are always closed, you may want to reconsider this. Condensation will get ”trapped” in between the window treatments and the windows creating a damp environment that may encourage the growth of mold. Making a routine to open your window covers will increase ventilation around the window and will reduce condensation, which in turn will reduce the potential for mold growth.

Pet Safety During a Renovation

Small white dog sitting on a deck

Meet Sasha.  She lives in a home we completed a #renovation in recently.  Our customers trust us enough to let us work in their home, and we in turn must ensure the safety of all who reside inside, even pets.  The #renovation process brings many loud noises, strange smells, and new people into the home, and #pets are often curious about all of this action.  But a construction work-site is not a safe place for a pet.  There can be dangers like harmful chemicals used in construction, dust and debris, sharp tools, or even open walls that a curious  cat or dog could crawl into and become trapped.  Talk to your renovator and discuss the specific dangers and what precautions need to be taken.
Often a barrier needs to be created between the work area and the pets area so the pet can not make unsupervised visits.  Working together we can make the renovation process safe for all in the home, even those precious pets.
