Transitional is a relatively new term in the design field and perhaps covers the most diverse range of styling as it is, as the name suggests a modern combination of both Traditional and Contemporary styling. Blending the dignified feel of traditional with modern, clean elements of contemporary.  Transitional signifies a passage or evolution from one style to another.

Many rooms with Transitional styling are based on either Arts & Crafts or Shaker simplicity but blended with Contemporary styling to create a room that is appropriate for today’s family.  The style pulls from the past so hardware can range from brushed nickel and brushed stainless steel finishes to pounded antiques and distressed metals.  Counter-tops also vary and range from natural materials like granite and quartz to materials that add texture to the space, such as concrete.  All colors from the color wheel can be used, however, low intensity colors are preferable.
