This time of the year the design world is abuzz with what next year will bring. As expected, the Pantone Color Institute has released the “Color of the Year 2015″. This carefully chosen color will be used in all design types, from industry to beauty, home to fashion.
This year, Pantone’s Color of the Year is
Why this color?
According to the Executive Director at the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman,
“Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability. It is hardy, robust, satisfying, fulfilling. At the same time there is a certain glamour that’s attached to this color.”
It may sound like this is describing wine because like the fortified wine that gives this color it’s name, Marsala embodies the richness of a satisfying meal, while the red-brown roots are sophisticated, natural and earthy. Not overpowering.
Although we all want to stay current, when it comes to Interior Design and Decor, we shouldn’t jump on every trend that comes along. That could be costly, and turn into never-ending renovations. That being said, Marsala is not risky and is very workable for a few reasons.
1. It is equally appealing to both men and women. When it comes to your Calgary based home renovation, you want your whole family to be comfortable.
2. It is creative and dramatic, and at the same time grounding. The rich red-brown brings warmth to home interiors while its dusty quality keeps it from overpowering.
3. The finish of this color is great in either matte or a sheen. A matte finish is more organic while a sheen finish is glamorous and luxurious.
The true question then is:
How can the Pantone Color of the Year be incorporated into your Calgary based home renovation? How can we help you interpret this into real life?
This color’s versatility makes it a great pairing for many color palettes. That means the use is really up to you, and your commitment and boldness. It can be a dramatic touch when used with neutrals like warm taupes and greys. Or it can bring warmth when paired with golden yellows and amber….or turquoise and teal…or even vibrant blues!
For example: If you are comfortable with the colors in your home currently, but would like to try incorporating Marsala, try it as a pop of color. This is a quick and inexpensive option. There will no doubt be plenty of Marsala colored decor items and textiles to choose from.
For the more committed Calgarians, wall color is a great option. Marsala’s dramatic flair means it can move easily into the office or bathroom or bedroom to keep things fresh and new. Pairing it with white trim makes it bright, but with warm woods it blends nicely, despite it’s strength. It can work well with many wood types and tones.
