Finally summer has come upon Calgary! Entertaining during our warm, bright evenings and enjoying the outdoors are the classic summer activities in Calgary.  Summer may also mean that it’s time to freshen up our living spaces.  Our design team has compiled some of the hottest trends for summer 2015, to help Calgary enjoy summer, in doors and out.

1. Indoor Water Features

In the Calgary climate, pools, ponds and waterfalls outside are possible but less common due to the seeming impracticality.  However, contemporary designs are pulling these concepts inside the home.

The sounds of trickling water is a soothing, summery feel. However, if a glamorous spa like water feature, although beautiful, is just not possible for your home, there are many ways to incorporate this element into your design.  Something as simple as a rain shower head installed in your spa-like bathroom can give you the feel of standing in a waterfall.  Adding it to finishes that give you a spa-feel will mimic the feel you desire.

Or a wall hung water feature can allow all your guests to enjoy the tranquility of rushing water.

With the water being pumped up and recycled, the cost of use is lower than expected.

2. Think Green!!

Reclaimed items are a hot trend for interior design.  It is rare to be able to get wooden planks from a dilapidated  barn that’s been in the family for years.  There are however, local retailers that sell just that. At Interiors we are able to work with any material you desire.  Some great ideas for incorporating this into your upcoming Calgary renovation could be shelving, feature wall applications, full pieces or for just a touch, a reclaimed wood panel in modern styles.

3. Life’s a Beach

Nothing makes your world feel like an endless summer like the beach style.  This can be done in small doses with accent colors, or decorative items.

Or you can go for a larger investment with white washed woods, white or sand colored walls, and airy and light finishes.

There’s also the larger commitment, but beautiful option of custom painted cabinetry to give the beach style.  At Interiors with Elegance, we have an in-house mill-working team, to custom build your cabinets to your specifications, to any color of your choosing.
